The term kundalini refers to the energy and consciousness which exists within each person.  It is your own inner light.  The kundalini energy is believed to lie dormant at the base of one's spine, curled like a lock of hair until it is "awakened", rising up the spinal column.  

Your kundalini can be awakened in different ways.  When this happens, it rises up the spine and through the chakras. You may feel a heat, a tingling sensation, an emotional rush or a feeling of bliss.  You will experience peace, vitality and greater awareness.  

You already have the capacity to face any challenge in life and move through it with vitality and strength.  This power is within you.  All kundalini yoga does is open the blocks within you that stop this force from flowing.

The practice of kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is the safest way to awaken this energy, as the yoga itself has a focus on strengthening the nervous system so the body is adequately prepared for an influx of this energy.
